Hard disks life may seem a random exotic estimation for some users, but there are applications that monitor disks health, warning users about the problems that might appear. Acronis Drive Monitor is such an application; it permanently scans the disks and lets you know about any issues that may result in a hard disk failure. Not all the hard drives failures can be predicted, but you better be aware of the problems by using such a program.
The program is based on the S.M.A.R.T. system, integrated in most current drives. S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) detects and reports various indicators of drive reliability like temperature, read error rate, spin time, power-on hours, and so on.
Acronis Drive Monitor has a simple interface and is easy to use. In the main window, it displays the hard disks present in the system and an option to select which one needs to be monitored. The reporting panel is divided into three tabs. The Disk overview tab shows a general state of the monitored drives. S.M.A.R.T. Parameters displays the state of each monitored drive reliability feature. The last one, the events tab, records all the reports and displays them as a weekly log.
Acronis Drive Monitor has an integration option for Acronis Backup & Recovery application, which has to be purchased separately.
